Holiday Spending Expected to Be Way Up in the Houston Suburbs

Texans aren't letting the pandemic ruin their Christmas shopping. Financial experts say holiday spending will be way up in the greater Houston area, despite the pandemic.

A new survey from WalletHub says residents in the Woodlands, Sugar Land, Pearland, and League City have big holiday budgets compared to many Americans: More than 2 thousand dollars by the end of December. A large amount of that is expected to be spent online.

“Mom and pop shops has been decimated. Mall traffic is going to be down. I expect the bulk of it’s going to be online retailers. So, Cyber Monday should be big numbers and that will set the pace for what’s going to happen into next year,” Michael Smith, President of STA Wealth Management, told KTRH.

Smith also says across the U.S. holiday sales are shaping up to be better than last year.
