The issues in the 2020 race are different from what we saw in 2016

The issues that drove the 2016 campaign are not the same ones that are driving the 2020 election.

In 2016 it was about illegal immigration, and the economy. Republican strategist Jessica Colon says law and order has replaced that.

"Law and order is top of mind for everyone. Public safety is something we pay tax dollars for. Lawlessness cannot be tolerated," Colon said.

Colon also says what's happening in the moment influences what issues the candidates are talking about.

"These are immediate topics that are touching voters lives in a very personal way this election cycle," Colon stated.

Such as COVID-19, which Colon says the Democrats are trying to weaponize against the President, even though the economy is recovering from the shutdowns.
