Adopt a Shelter Pet for Life for Free

Coronavirus 'Stay-at-Home' orders raised adoption rates at local pet shelters. Two reasons. 1. People spending all day at home wanted the companionship of a dog or cat. 2. Other pet lovers staying at home all day became able to foster shelter pets in their homes.

Now, National Clear the Shelters Day will find more pets loving homes on August 29th, when adoption fees are waived at many local shelters. Harris County Animal Shelter, now called Harris County Pets will also have free adoptions every Wednesday in August. Dr. Michael White says this is for their ready-to-go cats and dogs. "They have all of their age-appropriate vaccinations, they are de-wormed as well as spayed or neutered. We're also adopting out for free dogs that are heart-worm positive. We try to make some accommodation to get that animal treated."

There's No Good Reason to Fear Adopting a Pet During Covid-19

Dr. White says it's good to have a pet in your life. "Having a pet improves physical health, mental health, just petting an animal can reduce can reduce your blood pressure and anxiety. You know, animals are non-judgmental. They don't care about how much money you make or what you look like!"
