Keep Texas Moving: New Coalition Announced to Address Highway Congestion

Houston businesses launch a new coalition to improve our roads and free up some of the most gridlocked highways.

The Texas Association of Business is calling on local governments, truckers, commuters, and community leaders all to join them in a new partnership called Keep Texas Moving. Aaron Cox says government can't solve Houston’s growing congestion problem alone. They need private investment too, which may include toll roads. He says Texas is growing so rapidly, they need to give drivers the option of paying more to get to their destination faster.

“The reality is we would love to be able to build free roads, but the fact is that our tax revenues are just not keeping pace with need and the growth that we are experiencing,” Cox said.

He adds using private dollars to fund large highways has another added benefit: freeing up traditional tax dollars to spur growth in other industries.
