Texas Republicans Prepare for Thousands at State Convention in Houston

In just over a month, the self-proclaimed “largest political gather in the free world” comes to Houston. The city is the location of the 2020 Texas State Republican Convention.

The state's Republican Party expects thousands to show up in Houston July 16th through the 18th. GOP Chairman James Dickey says their team is working closely with staff at the George R. Brown Convention Center. To ensure social distancing, they've doubled their space.

“That’s really the biggest single thing, of course. They’re also instituting traffic flow through the booths. We’ve also got more space out for all of the meeting rooms and the general session than we typically would have,” Dickey said.

The Texas Republican Party had to delay the convention, originally scheduled for May, due to COVID-19. Dallas is one of many cities being considered for the National Republican Convention in August.
