Texas Paves the Way for a Return to Church

It's time once again to break out your Sunday Best.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton issued joint guidelines for a return to in-person worship services. Abbott's executive order (GA-16) includes houses of worship as "essential services", but adds they should conduct as many activities as possible remotely.

The order states that houses of worship should also do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19. Churches should encourage those who are sick or prone to infection to stay home. They should also increase sanitary practices, maintain social distance, and equip ushers and greeters with gloves and masks.

Texas Values President Jonathon Saenz released a statement reading, “We are pleased that Texas is giving the green light for in-person religious services to resume. This guidance respects religious freedom and provides responsible recommendations for houses of worship to continue ministering while doing their part to slow the spread of COVID-19.”
