Galveston County Reports 11 New Positive COVID-19 Cases

Galveston County Health District today reports 11 new positive COVID-19 cases in Galveston County residents. This brings the county’s case total to 479.

GCHD is also reporting 8 additional recoveries, bringing that total to 216.

The county also has one additional death:

  • A female, age range 91 and older, passed away April 19. She had pre-existing medical conditions.

There are 171 Galveston County cases tied to long-term care facilities within the county. This count includes residents and employees. Cities that have seen a large number of cases tied to long-term care facilities are noted on our daily case update graphic.

Today, the health district tested a total of 340 people (100 in Galveston and 240 in Texas City) through its free COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites. To date, 2,411 tests have been performed with 36 positive and 1,764 negative results reported back to the health district. All other results are currently pending. Testing is not limited to just Galveston County residents, but only county residents who tested positive for COVID-19 will be included in the health district’s daily case update.

To date, 11,487 Galveston County residents have been tested. This number does not include Galveston County residents who may have been tested outside the county.
