Student in Dayton area dies after auto-pedestrian accident this morning

This has been a tragic morning in the Dayton area.

City officials say a student is dead after being hit by a car in an auto-pedestrian crash. The accident happened on Highway 321 near County Road 676, about two miles from Dayton High School.

The city, in a statement, has identified the teenager that died as 14-year old Tyrese Mago, who attended Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School.

The statement said, "This is an active investigation as the police try to determine the exact circumstances of this incident. At this time criminal charges are not expected.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Robert Willoughby is onsite and conducting accident reconstruction. Motorists are asked to find an alternate route as traffic is being rerouted for the duration of the reconstruction, which is expected to continue throughout the morning.

“It is always tragic to see a loss of life in this way, but it is especially difficult when the loss is a child,” said Police Chief Robert Vine. “Our heartfelt prayers go out to the family of this young man and all involved.”
