As Game One of the World Series between the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals starts tomorrow night, city officials are prepping for all eyes on Houston.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said they preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
“We will have police officers all over, near the stadium. These police officers some of them you will see them, a lot of them in uniform, but many will be in plain clothes and quite frankly indistinguishable,” said Acevedo.
He said they will not tolerate any behavior against any Washington National fans, like what happened against Astros fans in New York.
“We’ll be using obviously public safety cameras and other technologies to monitor the situation.We will have our SWAT team deployed in the area, our special response group, our bomb and obviously our air support,” said Acevedo. “"We'll continue to monitor all threat streams across, not just the city, and the state and the nation, but the world with our federal partners to make sure no threats are identified and any threat that's identified, we will deal with.”
He added no firearms will be allowed in Minute Maid Park.
Acevedo said parking will be limited on streets immediately surrounding Minute Maid Park. Street closures will start every game day from 3 pm to 1 am.
"Including, Texas between LaBranch and Chartres, Crawford between Capitol and Franklin, Congress between LaBranch and Chartres, Hamilton between Capitol and Franklin," said Acevedo.
All ride shares and taxis will be dropped off and picked up at La Branch and Preston. Officials said the best way to get to the game is via Metro train. Service will run late, if needed.
