Republicans, including Trump, should be wary of backing any new gun laws

Before any Republican backs new legislation that would restrict gun rights, they should probably be aware of new polling that has come out.

Those new numbers show Republican voters support gun rights over gun control by a margin of nearly 3-to-1. Michael Hammond with Gun Owners of America tells KTRH you should not be surprised.

"We have generated two million letters to the United States Senate in opposition to this," Hammond said.

Hammond also says the President should be paying very close attention as well; that any red flag law he backs will hurt him in 2020.

"That would be his 'read my lips' moment. He would be a one-termer," Hammond stated.

Seventy-seven percent of Republicans now say they favor gun rights over gun control; that number three years ago was 77%
