The Invasion of the Zebra Mussels

Boaters be ware!

A Zebra Mussel is an invasive crustacean that can damage boat motors, clog pipes and negatively affect neighboring aquatic life.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife they have been confirmed at two more Austin-area lakes to bring the statewide infestation to 17 Texas lakes in 5 river basins. They have been discovered at Lake Lyndon B. Johnson in the Colorado River basin and Lake Pflugerville, which is a water supply reservoir. It is illegal in Texas to transport invasive species, including zebra mussels. Violators could face fines of up to $500 for failing to clean, drain and dry their watercraft and gear and to clear and destroy these guys.
