HPD: Man trying to avoid warrant dies in rollover crash after chase

A man that was out of jail on bond for felony charges was killed overnight after wrecking his car during a police chase.

HPD says the crash happened around midnight as cops went to serve a misdemeanor warrant at the man’s home. Police were conducting surveillance when the suspect spotted them and got into his car to get away.

The suspect was speeding eastbound on Westheimer when he lost control, struck a pole and then a large sign for a bank. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said the suspect had active warrants as well as being on bond for several felonies.

His name was not released.
