An apparent murder-suicide in the Katy area leaves two people dead and three others wounded during a house warming party late Wednesday night.
It happened at a home on Everhart Manor Lane near Crestford Park.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls says two teenage girls were found huddled in a locked room, another woman was able to escape and call for help.
"She called 911 and we were able to recover her," he said. "But she is uninjured. She's not harmed. And she's speaking with our investigators."
Investigators are not sure what led to the shooting, but said a man believed to be the brother of one of the renters opened fire, killing his sister before turning the gun on himself.
One person was shot in the chest, another shot in the face and the third person shot in the hand. All of them are expected to survive.
"Our detectives are out here with our crime scene unit and we're going to try to piece this together and determined exactly what happened," said Nehls.
