USPS honoring former President George H.W. Bush with Forever Stamp

Today is the first day of issuance of the 41st President, George HW Bush, commemorative stamp, acknowledging President Bush’s 95th birthday.

Jeff Adams with the US Postal Service explained the stamp has ties to Texas since the image was originally from when the Bush Center opened in 1997 taken by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.

"It’s kind of come full circle. So, that was in image that was taken from a magazine. The portrait was then done by Michael Deas. And, it’s here on President Bush’s birthday," said Adams.

The stamp was designed by Phil Jordan.

Adams said out of 30,000 stamp recommendations submitted, and an advisory committee choses only 25-30.

George Herbert Walker Bush died on November 30, 2018.
