Today’s parents do a lot of outsourcing

Today’s parents have a different style than you did when you raised your kids. And they surely had a different style than your parents, too.

Today’s parents hire experts to help them out. In other words, they do a lot of outsourcing.

There are now experts to help with everything, including potty training. One paid potty trainer even was featured on Good Morning America.

“I create as many opportunities for practice as possible,” Samantha Allen of NYC Potty Training told ABC’s Good Morning America.

Parenting expert Maria Luce says her parents would cringe at something like this.

“There was no service at that time to get that done. There was nobody to come in and show them how to teach five kids how to potty train. They did it themselves,” Luce explained.

So what are today's parents thinking?

“Some see this outsourcing as seeking experts for others to help. Parenting purists believe the only right way of parenting is to do it themselves,” Luce said, adding that the outcome of parenting may have replaced the process of parenting today.
