More Americans wanting religion to make a comeback

A Pew Research Center study found half of Americans favor religion playing a greater role in US society, while 18 percent oppose that idea.

Houston Baptist University assistant professor of government and philosophyDr. Shannon Holzer has always maintained that religion isn't waning.

He says religion is good for society.

"The founders believed it was good for society. We based our whole government off the principle that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator to certain unalienable rights," said Holzer

Holzer adds people don't normally pick religion based on their politics, but vice versa...for example, pro-life Christians tend to vote Republican. A lot of people's political views comes from their religious views.

"If there's a time to return to God, it's usually in the highly partisan, Constitutional questions over the principles of government," said Holzer

He said turmoil is a good time to turn back to religion/God, rather than government or man.
