It’s the Weekend of Houston Art Cars

In April of 1988 two thousand Houstonians lined the roads and applauded forty art cars as they passed through the streets of downtown – the first Houston Art Car Parade.

Today more than 250 cars from 23 states will amuse more than 250,000 spectators for one of Houston’s favorite landmark weekends. Everyone has a favorite car, a favorite story, a favorite memory of cars past.

Art Car Weekend will have several roads to the west of downtown closed today, Saturday, from 7 am to 5 pm. Allen Parkway is closed from Shepherd to Bagby.

The 2 pm Parade route starts at Bagby and Dallas. The cars will hang a left at Smith and make another left on Bagby and a left on Walker before heading down the parkway.

The fun begins with the lineup party at Allen Parkway and Heiner Street at 11, the same time the Kid’s Creative Zone kicks off at Sam Houston Park. Those with tickets for the VIP Experience will gather at Hermann Square Park.

The After Party is at St. Arnold Brewery from 4 to 8 pm.

Trophies and prize money are awarded Sunday.
