Houston: The #1 City to Retire in

Did you know your retirement dollars go further in Houston than any other major city in the United States. This according to a detailed analysis by GOBankingRates.com, a nationwide leader in financial news and advice. The study found that a retiree could afford to live in Houston for 26 years on $1 million in retirement savings, topping the list of 50 cities.

By comparison, in New York City that same amount would only last you around 17 years. Overall, cities in Texas did well in the study. Dallas came in at #22 where a million dollars would last you around 22 years; Fort Worth, San Antonio and Arlington around one year longer; and in Austin $1 million would last a retiree around 25 years.
