It's Lonely Being Followed

Millennials and Generation Z folks may be connected with hundreds of social media friends --- but say they are feeling alone. Bob Kittell, a social media addiction expert says, “There’s a direct correlation between Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are symptoms of depression. In 2013 – suicide was the third leading killer of our teens. No it’s number two in the United States “

He says Baby Boomers who keep up with friends only on Facebook instead of visiting face-to-face are also lonely. Kittell also sites an experiment involving low-performing students who were addicted to their cell phones. “We took their phones away from them and took them to the Utah Mountains. One week up in the mountains --- they actually increased their creativity and problem solving by 50%!”

His advice is to unplug, get outdoors and make some real face time with real human beings.
