"Not So Bad" Flu Season So Far

The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) is predicting a second half of the season to be more aggressive across the country. However, Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Robert Atmar of Baylor College of Medicine, says the Houston area is looking good, “Houston actually looks like, according to data from the Methodist and Texas Children’s Hospitals, that we hit the flu peak two weeks ago.”

Nonetheless, Dr. Atmar still suggests you get a flu shot if you haven't already. He notes the case of the 6 year old girl in Galveston who died with existing medical conditions coupled with flu-related complications. She was not vaccinated. He continues, “Most pharmacies carry it and have the ability to administer the shot.In fact, if you show them your insurance card – it should be sufficient for the vaccine.”
