New Rules For HFD If Your "Roof Is On Fire"

(Houston, TX) -- Houston Fire Department Chief Sam Peña says he plans to make more efficient use of city resources in responding to emergencies. Peña says the number of HFD personnel responding certain calls will be cut from 32 to 20.

These include a call to an unconfirmed fire, a fire that hasn't spread beyond the room where it started, or a fire at a house of two-thousand square feet or less.

A full team of 32 will respond to more serious cases, and a call with a crew of 20 can be upgraded to 32 if needed. Peña says a response of 20 crew members is still above national standards.
