New HFD Cadets Not Sworn In Yet Because Of Prop B

(Houston, TX) -- Nearly 70 Houston Fire Department cadets from two recent cadet classes are working at other city jobs instead of as firefighters. The cadets haven't been sworn in as firefighters since the passage of Proposition B in November, requiring equal pay for firefighters and police officers of equal rank. Mayor Sylvester Turner, who opposed Prop B, has no comment on the situation, but two mayoral candidates are speaking out. Tony Buzbee blames Turner's lack of leadership. Bill King says politics is endangering the citizens of Houston.
