During his inauguration in 1981, then President Ronald Reagan said he was going to try and get government out of our lives; that you were fed up with the way things were.
“Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem,” Reagan exclaimed.
But, 38 years later, it seems the problem still exists.
A new poll from Gallup shows 35% of you think government is the biggest problem facing us. That 35% is a record. Political consultant Joe Brettell told KTRH you've come to the conclusion that politicians just aren't working for you.
“Members today are more likely to craft talking points to get on to cable TV than they are to craft legislation that can solve the problem,” Brettell explained.
And what has finally pushed things over the edge?? The partial government shutdown that lasted for more than a month.
“Everyone was being stubborn. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Brettell stated.
That 35% saying government is our biggest problem beats the previous record of 33% which was set after the 2013 shutdown.
