Two Houston Officers Recovering After High Speed Chase, Overnight

Two Houston police are expected to survive after a crash overnight.

It started south of downtown in the 3500 block of Hutchins around 1:20a.m. Monday morning. That's when police attempted to pull a driver over.

That driver refused and took those officers on a high speed chase for nearly an hour.

Police made a failed attempt to PIT the vehicle, bumping it from behind.

Instead, the HPD SUV crashed and caught fire along Hwy 288 northbound feeder and Blodgett.

Both officers inside the SUV managed to escape. They were transported and are expected to be alright.

"The officers are good. They're in pain. They have some back pain, neck pain, transported to the hospital for a checkup," said HPD Sergeant Jesus Uribe.

The chase suspect kept going but was eventually stopped when he tried to exit his vehicle.

Now he's expected to face charges.
