Israeli scientists claim to be on the brink of a cure for cancer

A team of scientists in Israel says they'll likely have discovered a cure for cancer in the next year.

The Jerusalem Post reports Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies CEO Ilan Morad said the treatment –MuTaTo (multi-target toxin), is similar to a cancer antibiotic.

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston cancer biologist Dr. Mikhail Kolonin said scientists and researchers know that certain peptides can target cancer cells.

"Their approach is to make peptides that will target cancer cells and they want to combine several different peptides to kill different types of cancer cells," said Kolonin. "We've been working on the same technology for about 20 years. My lab, other labs, we have similar experimental drugs that work well in clinical trials. This company is not as close.”

He said the Israeli company took already existing technology, rebranded it as its own, and possibly made some incremental changes, but there's no publication, so it's hard to tell what they've done.
