If ever there was a weekend in the Greater Houston area to get out and comfortably hang your Christmas lights and arrange your outdoor decorations this is it! It’ll be dry with highs close to 80.
Bright Lights Houston decorates some of the most spectacular sights in Houston, including the Galleria area, Houston Zoo, the Nutcracker Market and now NASA. They do commercial and residential, at Christmas and year-round. “Our packages start at $1,000. A lot of professional, fully-insured companies have a minimum,” says founder and owner Matt Ellisor. He suggests doing your homework and making sure anyone you hire is legitimate, bonded, insured and trustworthy. Ellisor says the average residential customer can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $4,000-$4,700. He does have one client that goes all out. “We do one oak tree for around $60,000. I can’t disclose the name of the homeowner but if you look through Google you can probably figure it out pretty easily.”
People in Alvin are familiar with the Duke home, where 60,000 lights strung on their home are synchronized with a variety of songs. “We’ve always told the neighbors that if our light show is a problem to let us know and we will shut it down immediately,” says Vicki Duke. No one is complaining. They’ll have a visit from Santa the Saturday before Christmas from 7 – 9 pm.
