President Trump, continuing his hardline on immigration, has taken the initial steps towards ending birthright citizenship.
The President, a week before the midterms, has told ‘Axios on HBO’ he plans to do this by using an Executive Order.
“We're the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous and it has to end,” Trump said.
If Trump follows through on this, it would spark a debate over the 14th Amendment. KTRH Legal analyst Chris Tritico says Trump supporters would welcome this move.
“The argument that has been made over the last several years is that it’s being wrongfully used by illegals to cross the country and have a child that becomes a citizen of the country,” Tritico explained.
Trump also told Axios his advisors have told him he has the power to do this on his own.
“You can definitely do it with an act of Congress but now they're saying, I can do it just with an executive order,” Trump stated.
