Cheaper Rent? Not in Houston!
By iHeartMedia’s Sally Adams
Rents are becoming cheaper in a lot of U.S. metro areas --- but not in Houston. Rates are up 4% from last year. Tim Surratt of Greenwood King Properties says the demand is greater because 100,000 new people move to the Houston area every year. “That’s one of the reasons we see all those apartment buildings going up. The contractors can’t build new houses fast enough.” Surratt says he even negotiated a rental in River Oaks that was 20 thousand dollars a month!
Surratt also says he still thinks buying is better than renting because you control your own destiny and you’ll never evict yourself!
