Racial Untertones Lead to Withdrawal of HISD Interim Superintendent

(Houston, TX)  --  The Houston Independent School District is changing it's mind again.

The School Board last Thursday voted to replace Interim Superintendent Grenita Latham with former Superintendent Abe Saveedra, who served as the district superintendent from 2004 through 2009.

But some board members alleged that decision was motivated by racism and that Latham was ousted because she's black.

As the controversy gained steam, Saveedra withdrew his name from consideration for the position.  Latham is now expected to stay on while the board looks for a permanent superintendent.
