Amazon is raising the minimum wage for all its 250-thousand U.S. workers to 15 dollars an hour.
The company has yet to decide where to build its next headquarters. Austin and Dallas are still in the running but the 20-thousand employed in Texas including full and part-time workers. The move will impact small businesses in Houston, as Gabriel Roel Martinez at the Greater Houston Partnership told KTRH those small businesses will find it tougher to compete for talent.
“Employees that work at Amazon tend to live close to the fulfillment centers. That’s where the impact will occur,” Martinez said.
But there is the chance those same small businesses will benefit financially, too.
“You have more employees now with more money in their wallet,” Martinez stated.
The raise goes into effect November first.
