Mexican Feds Takeover Acapulco Police

Acapulco, Mexico

(Acapulco)  --  Mexican authorities are now in control of Acapulco's police force, after suspicions it had been corrupted and infiltrated by criminal groups.

State and federal police, the Marines and the state prosecutor's office carried out the takeover Tuesday.

Police officers in the beach town were disarmed and detained pending investigation.  Two police commanders were charged with murder.  More than 23-hundred murders were recorded in Acapulco in 2017.
