Alvin ISD will reevaluate dress code because of online petition

A Shadow Creek High School male student in Pearland was sent to in-school suspension for wearing makeup in class—which is a violation of the current dress code.

His classmates started an online petition, which drew the attention of school officials.

Alvin ISD Assistant Superintendent Daniel Combs said as soon as school officials heard about it, they reached out to the students to learn about their concerns.

“Every couple of years Alvin ISD extends an invitation to the community to review our dress code. It is a document that is somewhat fluid based on input we receive from our broader community,” said Combs.

Combs said they'll put together a dress code advisory committee made up of students, parents and community members to review all elements of the dress code.

“Ultimately that community advisory group will bring forth a recommendation as to the direction Alvin ISD should go with the dress code,” said Combs.

He says the dress code is somewhat fluid based on input they receive from the community.
