He might not be running, but President Donald Trump is the most important person you’ll be hearing about when it comes to the midterm campaign this election season.
It might sound weird, but Ross Ramsey at the Texas Tribune tells KTRH it is very true. His agenda is what you'll be voting on, and candidates on both sides of the aisle will be doing a lot of talking about him from now until Election Day.
“If a candidate is for or against him that’s a proxy for everything else, and that seems to be what voters are looking at right now,” Ramsey said.
So he will be featured in a lot of close races, including one right here in Texas that polling indicates is a lot closer than many experts thought it would be months ago. That would be the Senate race between Ted Cruz and Beto O'Rourke.
“Now Cruz is asking Trump to come to the state and campaign for him. That’s a sign of how powerful Trump is as a voter motivator,” Ramsey explained.
And the kind of lightning rod he is for the mainstream media.
