Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti Says To Keep Trump's Star on Walk of Fame

Eric Garcetti says don't replace Trump's star on Hollywood walk of fame

President Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles has had a rough few years since the 45th president was sworn into office. The star has been destroyed twice by vandals wielding pickaxes and as Trump continues to draw controversy, more groups have taken up the cause of permanently removing the president's star from the Walk of Fame.

On Tuesday, the West Hollywood City Council passed a resolution asking the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove President Donald Trump's star from the Walk of Fame because of the president's "disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country.”

The vote was non-binding and did little else than authorize the council to send a letter to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce asking them to remove the star.

But one person who doesn't think it should go is Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. TMZ caught up with the mayor in Silver Lake on Tuesday and when they asked him whether he believed Trump's star should be removed, he said he didn't think that's where people should be putting their energies right now.

"I think we should be focused less on sidewalk brawls and more on replacing a congress that enables him, that's where we put our energy in," Garcetti said. "Every moment we're out there fighting these fights and on our Twitter feeds, are moments when we could be registering voters and actually flipping this congress, and that's where i'm going to spend my energy."

The mayor of L.A. didn't mince words when it came to the current state of politics either.

"Politics has turned into a circus, and it's back and forth. The more we get trapped into playing their games, of yelling back and forth and symbolic gestures - I'm into real work, and right now, he's really doing bad things. Whether it's for the environment and the fires we have, whether it's immigrants, whether it's for our economy, this is somebody who we need to make sure November, we need to send a message to," Garcetti said.

The L.A. mayor made it clear that even if he wanted to mess with Trump's star, he couldn't as the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been designated a historical and cultural monument.

"Like it or hate it, it's there to stay," Garcetti told TMZ. "I'm going to send a stronger message than a star, I'm going to replace some of his friends in congress."

When the mayor was asked whether he was running for president in 2020, he deflected the query with a smile.

"Just focused on being mayor," Garcetti said.
