Missionaries of Charity

Authorities in India have opened up a massive investigation into the charity organization founded by Mother Teresa after a nun who was working at one of the charity's shelters was arrested for selling babies. Police said that Amima Indwar, who worked at the shelter for unwed mothers run by Missionaries of Charity, was arrested after she confessed that she and a nun named Sister Koncila sold four babies.

According to Fox News, police became aware of what Indwar was doing after she took back a baby boy from a couple she had sold him to. The couple told officials that they paid her over $1,700 for a newborn child. The baby was born on May 1st and given to the couple two weeks later. On July 1st, the couple said that Indwar called them and asked them to bring the boy back to the shelter to finish some routine paperwork. When they arrived, she took the baby and kept their money.

When police questioned Indwar, she confessed to selling four babies. The babies were located and are being kept with their adoptive parents under the condition that they meet with workers from the Child Welfare Committee once a week, according to the Times of India
