Economic policies lead to good news for Houstonians

The economy keeps getting good news. Small business optimism continues to rise, and it is optimism you can see just by looking at your bank accounts.

The Small Business Optimism Index went up by three points last month to its second highest level ever. Patrick Jankowski with the Greater Houston Partnership told KTRH it's a good time to either build a business here in Houston, or if you're simply looking for work.

“We are seeing hiring in a broad variety of sectors. We are seeing hiring in construction; a lot of that because of Harvey. We are seeing hiring in health care again; mainly in ambulatory and not in hospitals,” Jankowski explained.

So why is there all this optimism? Jankowski says the answer is simple.

“When business feel they are not going to be overly taxed or regulated they are going to make more hiring decisions. They will bring more people into payroll and make more investment decisions,” Jankowski said.

And with the cost of living in Texas being what it is, your salary here goes a lot further than it would in high tax cities like New York, Los Angeles or Chicago.
