America is eating itself sick--obesity is No. 1 health threat we face

Obesity rates are the highest they have ever been in the U.S.

Nearly 40 percent of adults and 19 percent of children in the US are now obese, according to the latest report by the National Center for Health Statistics. This morning, Ivana Trump will introduce the “Italiano Diet” for the first time ever in the United States. Dr. Joe Galati said it's basically a pre-packaged meal plan you must buy. He said following health plans like this are a fad.

His new book, "Eating Yourself Sick" is based on 30 years experience of seeing patients with fatty livers and diabetes. “We had to get back to the basics of nutrition, and that is eating real food, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and lean protein sources,” said Galati. The NCHS report shows a 30 percent increase in adult obesity and a 33 percent hike in youth obesity in the last few years.

“The children of today are not going to live as long as their parents because of diabetes, fatty livers, cirrhosis, kidney disease and cancer,” said Galati.

You can hear “Your Health First” with Dr. Joe Galati Sunday nights 7-8 on KTRH.
