POLL: More adult kids living with parents, grandparents today

Kids in earlier generations couldn’t wait to move out of the house. Now it seems that can’t wait to either come back, or never leave in the first place.

According to the Pew Research Center the share of adult kids living at home is the highest in 75 years; 33% of 25-29 year olds lived at home as recently as two years ago. Parenting expert Harry Harrison Jr. explains why.

“It’s not that the families are that close. It’s that the kids have not grown up enough to go out on their own into the world,” Harrison said.

He calls this the 'Failure to Launch' culture.

“Instead of teaching our kids to be independent, we are teaching them to become dependent on Mom and Dad solving their problems,” he explained.

The 33% living at home we mentioned a moment ago is three times what it was back in 1970.
