WRC: 50-50 Chance Texas Gets Hit This Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is less than two months away, and local forecasters are predicting another busy summer in the Atlantic.

Jill Hasling at Houston’s Weather Research Center is predicting at least three U.S. landfalls of a tropical storm or hurricane, and six total hurricanes with a 67-percent chance of a category three or higher storm.

“The Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama coast has the highest risk of experience landfall of a tropical storm with 75 percent chance,” she says.  “We're looking for 10-13 named systems in the Atlantic.”

By comparison, the WRC projects Texas has a 50 percent chance of being hit by a storm this year.
