Leon Jacob, convicted of hiring a hit man to kill his ex-girlfriend, has been given a life sentence in prison.
The verdict came late Monday afternoon.
Jacob, a 40-year-old failed doctor, has steadfastly maintained his innocence -- even taking the stand for two days in his own defense during the trial.
He said it was provably true that he could not have tried to hire a hit man's services to kill two people -- his former girlfriend, the ex-husband of his new girlfriend, a Houston veterinarian.
His new girlfriend also was charged in the scheme – and she jumped to her death off her high-rise condo shortly after her arrest.
A Harris County jury convicted him last Friday -- requiring little more than an hour to agree on his guilt.
The life sentence was handed down Monday.
