TEXAS INDEPENDENCE

It’s where Texas “became” Texas….182 years ago…Washington on the Brazos.  There on March 2, 1836 a formal declaration of independence from Mexico was issued by 59 delegates to a Texian convention.

The Alamo was under siege, the victory at San Jacinto still in the future but the future was launched with the Declaration on the very 293 acres which is now Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.

It’s just a short drive out of Houston and this year  the Star of the Republic Museum there is launching an incredible exhibit of the many shapes of Texas.  It’s a collection of rare and historic maps of Texas before it became the Republic and it’s many changes of boundaries over hundreds of years.

Worth a visit to see how shapes change but the spirit of independence doesn’t at Washington on the Brazos.
