WARMING UP

Call it the great release...95 green sea turtles sent south to warmer waters today.

The turtles have been in triage at Moody Gardens, rescued from the freezing temperatures of last week. Overall, about 300 stunned turtles were rescued by NOAA over just a five mile stretch of Matagorda Bay. They feed in shallow waters there and when that water temperature drops below 50 degrees, they get cold-stunned, floating to the surface to even greater cold and danger.

Moody Gardens warmed and cleaned off these 95 turtles who were deemed healthy. With another cold front approaching Galveston the green sea turtles will be taken further south and released just off Padre Island where the waters are warm...at least warm for turtles.
