When Forbes puts out its annual list of the top 400 richest Americans...it's one of those reads like imagining you've won the lottery. How did these multi-billionaires get there?
For Texans, the roots are most commonly oil and gas, but not all. There's a strong group of heirs who parlay fortune into more, and yes, there are self-starters too, in this can-do state.
There are 34 Texans on the Forbes list this year... 11 of them in Houston...though George Bishop of The Woodlands could be considered 12...and Michael Dell of Austin is a Houston native. I should point out that Texas has many billionaires, but to make the list of 400....the entry level was 2 billion. gee.
