GAAAAARRRRRR!!

It's a big one. An alligator gar weighing 197 pounds at 7.39 feet in length pulled from the Brazos River last month by a bow fishing man from Longview.

Texas Parks and Wildlife think that gar is 60 years old and they say it most likely hatched during a flood in the Waco area in 1957. Now, how do they determine that?

Since this one sets a record, I looked up more on the Brazos Alligator Gar. They look menacing with long snouts and double rows of teeth. They are predatory on smaller fish and cunning enough to even snatch birds and turtles.

Don't worry for yourself however. The Brazos Alligator Gar has its own predators....alligators and humans.
