Officials to Blow Up Raided Materials in SW Houston

An FBI/ATF home raid in conjunction with the Houston Police Department forced the evacuation of neighbors in a southwest Houston community Monday morning.

The house is on Albans Road in the Rice Village area. The matter involves hazardous materials inside, officials say.

People living there between Hazard and Wilson streets, and along a limited-access lane in that area, were evacuated from their homes.

The material were being destroyed as "law enforcement is working to dispose of the materials through a series of controlled detonations," according to Houston Office of Emergency Management.

That was the source of loud booming sounds heard in the surrounding area.

FBI officials riaided the home Sunday afternoon and were still on site with other agencies on Monday.

It's unclear why the home was being searched.

FBI officials said there is no threat to the public at this time.

The FBI raided a home on the same street in 2013 to search for explosive materials. It's unknown if the current raid and detonations are at the same house.
