Trump Gets Behind Bill To Limit Legal Immigration

President Trump is getting behind a bill that aims to limit legal immigration.  During a White House event, Trump said it would be the most significant reform of the U.S. immigration system in half a century.  He noted that it would favor English-speaking green card applicants who are highly-skilled.

The President was joined by the two Republican senators who are co-sponsoring the bill, Georgia's David Perdue and Tom Cotton from Arkansas.  Senator Cotton called the U.S. immigration system an "obsolete disaster."  Senator Perdue said the bill would provoke "sweeping changes" in the U.S.

The Cotton-Perdue bill aims to cut legal immigration by 50-percent over ten years.  It includes limits on the number of refugees who are offered permanent residency in the U.S. each year.
