Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is headed to the U.S. Energy Department.
The Senate on Thursday confirmed Perry as energy secretary.
Republican Perry, during an unsuccessful campaign for president, once called for the Energy Department to be abolished.
In his Senate confirmation hearing, however, he noted that he changed his mind about that and said he would focus on updating the country's nuclear arsenal and research activities.
