15 Injured, 1 Dead In Southeast Houston Party Shooting

The number of people injured in an attack on Southeast Houston partygoers is now 15, according to the latest report from the Houston Police Department.

Earlier, the number of injured was said to be 14. Police list their ages as between 16 and 40 years old.

Described by some as a family party, others as a block party, the number of attendees at the home in a neighborhood near Long Dr. at the 610 South Loop swelled to more than 100, according to at least one eyewitness.

There were even a few leaflets handed out, inviting people to the gathering but specifying that guests leave their guns at home.

One guest didn't, and after he arrived he was asked to leave the party. That's when he pulled out a gun and started shooting at people in the crowd who were partying, police say.

The gunman was met with return fire from inside the home at that property.

In all, 16 people were hit with bullets or were otherwise hurt. One of them died moments after being shot, even though a bystander was able to pull him into the bed of a truck to take the victim to a hospital, and another partygoer tried to revive the victim with CPR. The victim is said to have bled out in the truck.

Police said they arrived during the shooting and called for help from other officers.

Police immediately set up a staging area in the neighborhood where people could be brought to meet EMS and relatives, even as officers started arresting a number of people for questioning.

Some of the victims were able to drive to hospitals to get help.

Police spent the day questioning people about the multiple shooting as an investigation continued, but it wasn't clear whether a certain person has been identified as a primary suspect.
