America's economic struggles are putting a tight squeeze on everyone, including restaurant owners here in the greater Houston area. Due to labor and product costs, restaurant owners are facing some major challenges.
Jonathan Horowitz with the Houston Hospitality Alliance told KTRH that these struggles "make it all the more difficult." He said, "In an industry that has always had challenges and small margins, those margins are under even more pressure right now."
Horowitz also warned that the recent property tax hikes in Houston and Harris County are only going to make things worse. He said, "Any increase in property taxes or rents will just add another level of challenge and complexity."
Horowitz says that based on the current trajectory of the economy, he doesn't think things will get easier for restaurant owners anytime soon, and we could be looking at a generational shift in the restaurant market.
