Hurricane Season May Be Longer This Year

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is discussing reacting to a string of years when the first named storm in the Atlantic Basin showed its winds before the first of June. They may start Hurricane season a couple of weeks earlier this year.

A team made up of experts from The National Hurricane Center (NHC) and organizations under the National Weather Service (NWS) will likely discuss this thoroughly in the near future. Spokesman for the NHC is Dennis Feltgen confirmed this action which was discussed in the NOAA Hurricane Conference in December. He says they are considering adding dates to the traditional Hurricane Calendar. Feltgen says they are considering moving the beginning of the season to May 15th. Weeks could also be added to the end of the season.
